Dressing for the cold is a really subjective subject. When I am out taking pictures I want to primarily keep my core warm. The thought is that if your core is warm, everything else stays warm.
When I take that approach, it's amazing how little I end up wearing. By focusing on keeping my core warm, I've been able to tolerate stints as low as -25 Fahrenheit.
